The Dischidia Dragon Jade is an amazingly unique plant from Southeast Asia. It got its nickname “Dragon Jade” from its tightly knit green, succulent-like leaves that resemble dragon scales or bubbles and has small roots which love to climb. They are also epiphytic in nature, so giving them something to climb on is a beautiful add on.
LIGHT:
Dischidia Dragon Jade aka Dragon Bubbles likes bright indirect light. Window light works; however, you will find more new growth under a ‘grow light.’
TEMPERATURE:
Ideal temperatures are around 68°F but can handle temps as low as 56°F (12°C) and as high as 95°F (35 °C).
HUMIDITY:
They love high humidity. If you don’t have enough, you can make your own. Just mist every few days in a well-ventilated area.
WATER:
Let soil dry out in between watering. If you have high humidity you are going to want to water your plant less. Being that this plant is an epiphyte, it is used to getting its water through the moisture in the air.
SOIL:
For soil, the main thing you want is extremely well-draining soil. In fact, just bark is fine. You can use one of the following: simply coconut husk (recommended), fir or orchard bark; 50% potting soil (coir) to 50% bark (coconut husks); or grower’s mix, fir/orchard bark, perlite and succulent soil.
FERTILIZER:
Fertilize on a bi-annual or annual basis with a succulent fertilizer is recommended.
TOXICITY:
The Dragon Jade is considered toxic to both humans and pets if ingested. Dischidia’s do bleed a toxic sap that is a skin irritant.
